108 is the numerical representation of Thomas or Aaron[]

"Thomas (Wallace)" : Although it is common knowledge that Aaron's biological father is named Thomas, there is no mention of his last name. It is possible that Thomas Wallace is in fact his full name and as a result, 108 is Aaron's father or Aaron himself as Littleton would not be his last name as the son would logically take on the name of the father.
- Following that logic, Claire's last name would be Shephard. But there is a "Littleton" in the cliff side cave. So Aaron's last name is Littleton as well.

As we've seen him approaching the Island, then it would seem most likely that Widmore is candidate 108 and could have simply changed his name. Both names have the same amount of letters and start and end with the same letters. Unless of course someone on the submarine is named Wallace.

The numbers: 4,8,15,16,23,42 add up to 108.
