"Something Nice Back Home" é o décimo episódio da 4ª Temporada de Lost, e foi ao ar no dia 1º de Maio de 2008.

Synopsis

Na praia

Jack acorda desorientado em uma tenda por Juliet. Depois de recuperar consciência suficiente para se levantar, ele e Juliet saem da tenda e encontram um grupo de pessoas que incluem Bernard, Daniel e Charlotte, discutindo sobre o fato de Daniel e Charlotte estarem mentindo para eles sobre o pessoal do cargueiro. Jack interfere e diz que, de fato, eles estiveram mentindo. Ele diz que o pessoal vai voltar por Daniel e Charlotte, e que os sobreviventes estarão prontos para isso. Ele reafirma ao grupo que eles precisam ser pacientes, pois irá manter com a promessa e tirá-los da ilha. Ele então desmaia sobre a areia.

Jack acorda na praia enquanto Kate corre em direção à ele. Ela fica preocupa e diz que sente que ele está com febre, ele diz que ele apenas precisa descansar. Depois, Jack está numa tenda tomando antibióticos quando Juliet entra. Ele diz para ela que está com uma intoxicação alimentar, ela discorda. Depois de sentir dores no abdômen, ela diz para ele que a dor está vindo de seu apêndice. Ele conta à ela que o apêndice ainda não foi rompido., e ela responde: "Eu acho que teremos que tirá-lo".

Juliet conversa e dá a Sun uma lista de equipamentos médicos para a retirada do apêndice de Jack, e fala para ela e Jin irem à mesma estação trazer para ela. Sun diz para Juliet que ela não sabe como esses remédios são. Em razão disso, Daniel oferece ajuda. Ele discute com Charlotte sobre isso, pois ele quer provar que o ataque não foi escolha dos cientistas. Ele adianta que já fez autópcias em animais no passado e que teria experência com o material necessário. Juliet aceita a ajuda, mas entrega uma arma à Jin e diz para ele atirar em qualquer um dos dois se tentarem fugir. Juliet diz para o grupo preparar um ambiente esterelizado para a cirurgia.

Enquanto lava uma mesa para a cirurgia, Bernard percebe que Rose está inquieta. Rose pergunta a ele por quê Jack está doente. Ela acha que não é uma coincidência que ele está doente, pois as pessoas não ficam doentes na ilha. "Não aqui", ela responde quando Bernard diz para ela que as pessoas simplesmentes adoecem. "Aqui, elas melhoram".

Jin, Sun, Faraday e Charllote chegam na Estação Médica para buscarem os equipamentos médicos que Juliet precisa pra retirar o apêndice de Jack. Enquanto eles entram, Daniel se oferece a ir na frente para "Ter certeza que é seguro", eles trocam profundos olhares enquanto Jin pergunta para Sun em coreano se a Charllote percebe que Daniel gosta dela. Sun responde: "Ela é mulher, claro que ela sabe", Charllote olha para eles e sorri, entrando na estação.

Enquanto entram na enfermaria, Daniel olha ao seu redor e se pergunta de onde essa energia toda está vindo, e Charllote diz "Adiciona isso à liste, Dan". Sun vai em direção a cama onde ela fez o ultra-som e Jin pergunta o que tem de errado. Elas conversam em coreano sobre a Juliet ter a trazido ali e diz que foi ali onde ela viu o bebê pela primeira vez. Sun mostra sua preocupação em querer sair da ilha, destacando o fato de Daniel, Charlotte e seus amigos não estarem ali para o resgate. Jin promete à ela que ele fará tudo o que for preciso para tirar ela de lá. Durante toda essa conversa, Charlotte não parava de os observar.

Jack e Juliet estão dentro de uma tenda onde ela o prepara para a cirurgia, raspando sua barriga. Ele pergunta se essa é a primeira vez que ela está fazendo isso e ela diz que não é a primeira vez que ela faz uma remoção de apêndice, o que não parece acalmá-lo. Ele pergunta se ela tem certeza, pois ela está raspando um pouco acima de onde a incisão será feita, mas ela reafirma. Ele diz para ela que ele não quer ficar inconsciente durante a cirurgia. Ele quer usar anestesia local e que Kate segure para ele um espelho para que ele possa ver o que está acontecendo e ajudar Juliet no processo. Ela parece desconfortável com a idéia, mas concorda.

Mais tarde na mesma noite quando Charlotte, Daniel, Sun e Jin retornam, Jin chama Charlotte para uma conversa. Ele diz para em coreano: "Eu sei que me entende". Ele conta que sabe que ela fala coreano pois percebeu que ela sorriu quando Sun estava conversando com ele sobre ela, na estação médica. Charlotte age como se não estivesse entendendo até que Jin diz que, se ela não parar de mentir, ele machucará Daniel. Em coreano, Charllote pergunta o que ele quer e Jin responde dizendo que ele quer que Sun vá no helicóptero, quando o mesmo chegar. Ela afirma com a cabeça e vai embora.

Na tenda cirúrgica, Juliet, Kate e Bernard se preparam para a operação. Bernard sugere que eles anestesiem o Jack com o clorofôrmio que foi trazido da estação médica, mas Jack recusa. Bernard numera a área no abdômen de Jack e Juliet faz a primeira incisão enquanto Kate segura um espelho para Jack ver. Jack resmunga e grita enquanro Juliet continua com a incisão e ela vê que ele está sentindo muita dor para estar acordado. Juliet manda Kate sair da tenda e Beranrd apagá-lo. Bernard coloca um trapo de clorofôrmio em cima da mesa de Jack e ele apaga.

Do lado de fora da tenda depois da cirurgia ter terminado, Bernard diz para Kate que tudo ocorreu bem. Ela adentra a tenda onde Juliet está costurando Jack e ela reafirma que ele ficará bem. Ela conta para Kate que Jack a beijou o outro dia. Ela diz que aquilo não foi por ela, e sim por ele, e diz que ele estava tentando provar que "não está amando ninguém". Kate agradece por ela estar salvando a vida de Jack e deixa a tenda. Juliet diz para Jack que sabe que ele está acordado e ele abre os olhos.

Na Floresta

Sawyer, Claire e Miles estão andando pela floresta quando chegam à uma pequena clareira. Miles parece inquieto, pára de andar, e pergunta: "Quem são Danielle e Karl?". Ele começa a cavar e consegue encontrar ambos os corpos enterrados em buracos não muito fundos. Sawyer pergunta como que ele sabia sobre isso, sem resposta. Sawyer então acusa a equipe de Miles de matá-los, mas ele nega estar na mesma equipe que Keamy e seus homens. Miles parece chateado por encontrar o corpo e pergunta: "Não é para isso que eu vim". Claire sugere sair dali e Sawyer a segue, antes de prometer que tudo ficará bem ao chegarem na praia.

Depois, Claire está cuidando de Aaron enquanro Miles a vigia. Sawyer chega até ele e diz que não é para ele conversar, olhar e nem mesmo pensar em Claire, e diz que ele tem, oficialmente, uma ordem de ficar longe dela. Miles solta uma piada e pergunta se ele é o "irmão mais velho" de Claire, o quê Sawyer responde: "Não, mas eu sou aquele que vai te dar um chute na cara se você não disser 'Ah, sim, entendido'". E Miles responde: "Ah, sim, entendido", e se distancia.

Christian holds Aaron

Mais tarde, Miles oferece ajuda a Claire com o Aaron, pois ele é "bom com crianças", e Sawyer chega para ele e diz: "Qual a parte da ordem você não entendeu?". De repente, eles ouvem uma pessoas se aproximando enquanto Lapidus aparece dentre as matas carregando seu telefone e um kit de primeiro-socorros. Ele parece muito assustado e fala com Miles, primeiro, e Sawyer pergunta: "Vocês dois se conhecem?". Frank, apressado, fala para eles que elas não têm tempo pois Keamy está vindo e se eles os encontrar lá, ele os matará, portanto eles precisam se esconder imediatamente. Eles todos se escondem dentro do mato e vêem Keamy se aproximar. Eles todos parecem bem, exceto para um homem à quem Lapidus pergunta o que aconteceu. A única preocupação de Keamy é o helicóptero. Frank diz que não está longe, e Keamy diz: "Você faz o seu trabalho, e eu faço a minha". Do nada, Aaron faz um barulho e Keamy escuta, e fica desconfiado. Numa tentativa de defender o pessoal que está se escondendo ele começa a apressar Keamy dizendo que está ficando escuro, e ele se recusa a voar nas coordenadas de Faraday no escuro. Depois de um longo pause, Keamy concorda e eles seguem para o helicóptero.

Christian holds Aaron

That night Claire awakenes to find Aaron isn't beside her. She looks across the campfire to see her father, Christian Shephard holding him. Claire recognizes him and asks, "Dad?".

The next morning, Sawyer wakes up and glances over to Claire's sleeping area to notice it empty. He asked Miles where she is and Miles says he saw her take off into the jungle. Sawyer doesn't believe that Claire would wander off alone but Miles says she wasn't alone, she was walking with someone she called 'Dad'. Sawyer demands to know why Miles didn't try to stop her and Miles mentions his restraining order. As Sawyer is about to rough Miles up, he hears Aaron crying in the jungle. He leaves Miles and runs off to find Aaron on his blanket at the base of a tree by himself. He picks him up and looks around screaming for Claire who is nowhere to be found.

Flashforward

Jack awakens

Jack acorda em uma cama em uma casa muito bonita, quando o telefone toca. É uma recepcionista lembrando que ele tem um encontro marcado com um paciente. Ela sente que é necessário lembrá-lo pois ele não está indo bem com o calendário. Ele agradece e desde as escadas. Entrando na cozinha, ele atropeça em uma coisa e reclama da dor, pegando e mostrando que é uma versão do brinquedo Milleniun Falcon. Ele anda até a pia e pega um jornal de esportes que mostra uma estória sobre os Yankees varrer o Red Sox e cochicha "A-Rod".

Depois, ele está no banheiro, onde alguém está tomando banho. Eles conversam e ela conta para ele que ela trouxe uma nova gilete. Ele responde: "Ah, você não gosta da nuca?", então ela sai do banho. Jack vira-se e revela que é Kate no banheiro, eles beijam e a cena acaba.

Later, Jack is reading Aaron a story from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, as Kate looks on. With Aaron asleep, Jack turns out the light. In the hall Kate tells Jack he "is a natural." Jack tells Kate that his father used to read him that story. Kate smiles and mentions it's nice to hear Jack say good things about his father. Jack asks, "I don't say good things about my father?" He then says his father was a good storyteller. Kate softly tells Jack that she loves seeing him with Aaron, that she is glad he changed his mind and glad he's there. Jack replies, "me too" and picks Kate up and presses her against the wall to make out. He carries her from the hall while she laughs.

The next day, Jack is finishing the consult with Ms. Berenberg, giving her instructions for her surgery the following day as he walks her to the hospital lobby. Jack catches a glimpse of a familiar face, and does a double-take to see Christian Shepard, wearing the same blue suit Jack repeatedly saw him wearing on the island, walking through the lobby. Jack's co-worker, Dr Erika Stevens, calls his name twice to get his attention, wanting his opinion on a spinal x-ray, an L-4. The receptionist then tells Jack a Dr. Stillman from Santa Rosa Hospital is calling about "a friend of yours".

Hurley in the Mental Institute

Jack goes to the hospital to meet with Dr Stillman, who says Hurley has been refusing his medication and has stopped sleeping. Jack asks about therapy, but Dr. Stillman says therapy is now out of the question because Hurley believes Dr Stillman isn't real. Jack goes to see Hurley, who tells him that he isn't taking his medication because he believes that he and the rest of the Oceanic 6 died without ever escaping the island and are now stuck in the afterlife. Hurley asks Jack about his day, which Jack describes, talking about Kate and Aaron. Hurley questions that Jack didn't want to be with Kate and Aaron, but Jack replies he changed his mind after Kate's trial. Hurley compares Jack's life with Kate and Aaron to heaven. Hurley tells Jack he continues to receive visits from Charlie, regularly talking to him on a bench on the lawn outside the hospital. He tells Jack that Charlie visited him the day before and had predicted Jack's visit. Charlie had a message for Jack which he made Hurley write down so he would get it exactly, stating "You're not supposed to raise him, Jack". Hurley asks if "him" means Aaron. Jack says he doesn't know and tells Hurley to just take his meds. Hurley tells Jack that he will soon be getting a visitor of his own.

Later that night Jack comes home to a sleeping Kate and wakes her up. She asks if he was working late, but he says he was out doing errands. He asks her about the previous night with Aaron when she said he was a natural. Jack asks her if she really thinks he is "good at this?" She tells him she does and after a long pause, Jack asks Kate to marry him. He pulls a diamond ring from his pocket and places it on a tearful Kate's finger, who replies "Of course I will, yes!"

Christian appears to Jack

Jack is reviewing Ryan Laker's x-ray, stating into a tape recorder that there is an osteoblastoma on the posterior area of the lumbar and he is recommending a biopsy. He is interrupted by the persistant beeping of a low-battery warning on a smoke detector. He goes to the reception area, climbs onto a desk, and pulls out the battery. After climbing down, Jack is startled to hear his name called out by his father. He turns to see Christian Shepard sitting in the lobby, again in the blue suit with white shoes he is seen wearing around the Island. As he is still trying to take it in, Dr. Stevens approaches him from behind and calls his name. He turns to respond to her and when he turns back toward the chairs, his father has disappeared. Jack is distracted and Ericka asks if he is okay. Jack asks Ericka to write him a prescription for clonazepam, stating he has a lot going on right now, including a heavy caseload and his new engagement. She reminds him an engagement is supposed to reduce stress, not create more, and suggests he "talk to somebody". He replies he'll do that and happily takes the prescription. When Jack gets home, he hears Kate talking on the phone. She is saying that "Jack's not home before eight" and "stay for at least an hour". She quickly gets off the phone when she realizes Jack is home. He asks her who was on the phone, and Kate tells him it was Maureen, another mom from the park. Jack says Kate has never mentioned her before. Kate blows this off and kisses Jack, then heads upstairs. An obviously stressed Jack gets out his new prescription, and washes two pills down with a bottle of beer.

Jack looks sorrowful after yelling in front of Aaron

Sometime a week after that, Kate comes home to find a drunk Jack. He confronts her about where she was and why Veronica, the nanny, was at the house when Kate should be home. Kate replies she was running errands, and when pressed, asks for Jack's trust. Jack tells her about his visit with Hurley, calling him crazy, and then again presses Kate for where she really was. Kate begs jack to leave it alone, but Jack persists. She finally admits she was doing a favor for Sawyer. When Jack asks why she would keep this secret from him, Kate tells him, because "he wouldn't want her to". Jack reminds her that he is the one who is there for her and who saved her, that Sawyer made his choice to stay while Jack came back. Kate becomes upset and says she can't have Jack drunk and acting like this around her son. Jack becomes angry and yells at her that she isn't even related to Aaron, just as Aaron walks in. Kate comforts Aaron, looking sadly at Jack, as he turns and walks away.
