Em "The Man from Tallahassee", Locke se infiltrou na Vila dos Outros e pegou Ben e Alex como reféns, exigindo que eles dissessem onde estava o submarino. Ben entendeu que Locke estava planejando usar os explosivos que pegou da estação Chama para destruir o veículo e tentou convencê-lo (usando psicologia reversa) a não fazer isso.
Ele explicou que o submarino poderia deixar a Ilha, mas não poderia retornar. Portanto, o resultado seria o mesmo se Locke destruísse ou não o submarino, porque Jack estaria indo embora naquela hora. Locke pegou Alex e colocou os explosivos no submarino. Enquanto ele deixava a doca, Tom, Jack, e Juliet o capturaram, mas o submarino explodiu momentos depois. In "One of Us" Juliet's flashback reveals that Ethan and Richard Alpert made her take a tranquilizer before travelling to the island. She woke up in the submarine, strapped to a bed. The reason for the straps and at least part of the reason for the tranquilizer were explained by Ethan to be because of the unusual effects of the method of travel and roughness of the experience.

- It is unclear whether the exterior shots represent any sort of real submarine. The interior shots are from a United States Navy Gato Class Submarine. The first Gato Class submarine entered service with the U.S. Navy in August 1941.
- A ¦|¦ trigram is seen on the submarine's conning tower and on the shirt of one of its crew members. The same symbol appears on the bottom of the DHARMA logos.
