Charles Widmore è un ex leader degli altri, un facoltoso industriale ed il padre di Penelope Widmore e Daniel Faraday. Ha una misteriosa rivalità con Benjamin Linus da molto tempo (anche lui un'ex leader degli Altri) per il controllo dell'Isola. La spedizione del cargo Kahana fallì nell'impresa di farlo tornare in possesso dell'Isola. Per ragioni sconosciute, Ben non può uccidere Widmore nemmeno quando gliene viene data l'opportunità. Comunque, Widmore sta apparentemente complottando per uccidere Ben, un "interesse comune" che ha con Sun-Hwa Kwon, finché Sun scopre che le azioni sull'Isola di Ben non hanno avuto come conseguenza la morte di suo marito. Nel 2007, Widmore ritorna sull'Isola con un sottomarino e fa scoppiare una guerra con l'Uomo in Nero. Ha riportato Desmond Hume sull'Isola contro la sua volontà per usarlo in qualcosa di davvero importante.

Widmore faceva parte degli Altri sull' Isola al tempo del comando Richard Alpert nel 1954, come menzionato nella conversazione con John Locke. Aveva 17 anni all'epoca ("Vita e morte di Jeremy Bentham"). Lui e altri due uomini, Cunningham e Mattingly, indossavano uniformi rubate dell'esercito con le targhette che indicavano i nomi ("Jones"). Dopo che i sopravvissuti scappano dall' attacco degli Altri, Widmore ed il suo gruppo catturano Sawyer e Juliet. Appena Locke entra nel campo, Widmore aggressivamente punta una pistola verso la testa di Locke ordinandogli di stare a terra. Dopo che Locke conquista la fiducia di Richard, quest'ultimo identifica Widmore dal nome, gli dice di abbassare la pistola. In seguito Locke saluta Widmore, rivelando il significato del suo primo e scondo nome, senza dire come lo conoscesse. Questo incontro con Locke sembra ispirare Widmore, come un uomo dal futuro potesse sapere chi fosse (sebbene non c'è ancora alcuna prova che dimostri che Widmore era informato, nel 1954, che Locke venisse dal futuro). 1977

Charles nel 1977, riconosce Kate e Jack. ("Il nuovo leader")

Quando Kate e Sawyer consegnano "il giovane e ferito Ben" ad Erik, Widmore è menzionato. Charles, come leader degli Altri, ordina a Ben di uccidere la bambina. ("Ciò che è morto è morto")

Durante il periodo come leader degli Altri, Widmore compie continuamente dei viaggio fuori dall'Isola. Durante uno di questi viaggi, nasce sua figlia Penny con una donna sconosciuta che vive al di là dell'isola.

Nel 1989, Widmore ordina a Ben e Ethan di uccidere Danielle Rousseau. Quando Ben torna al campo con la figlia della Rousseau, Alex, Ben si scontra aggressivamente con Widmore, che chiede di sapere perchè Ben era in possesso di un neonato. Ben con Widmore poichè non lo aveva informato del neonato prima che accettasse la missione. Widmore ordina a Ben di ucciderla, sostenendo che fosse il volere di Jacob. Ben rifiuta, e invece esclama che se fosse stato davvero quello il volere dell'isola, Widmore dovrebbe essere in grado di farlo. Schernito, Widmore si gira e si allontana, lasciando a Ben il possesso del neonato. ("Ciò che è morto è morto")

Ben esilia Widmore dall'Isola. ("Ciò che è morto è morto")

Come leader degli Altri, si presume che Widmore abbia giocato un ruolo attivo nella purga della DHARMA Initiative nel Dicembre 1992. Tuttavia non si sa ancora dove sia stato durante quell'evento, sebbene Ben ha affermato che è stato lui a "decidere di uccidere i membri dell'Initiative" . Charles riceve una visita da Desmond Desmond Hume, che intende chiedergli il permesso per sposare sua figlia. Anche notando il fatto che lui stia facendo un nobile gesto, Widmore afferma che Desmond non sia degno di sposare sua figlia, perchè non sarà mai un "grande uomo", usando l'omonimo di Anderson MacCutcheon, come marchio su una bottiglia di whisky, come esempio di uomo degno di stima. Dopo Desmond se ne và, triste e pieno di vergogna. ("Déjà vu")

Widmore offre a Desmond due strade per la sua vita. ("Si vive insieme, si muore soli, seconda parte")

Nel 1996, Widmore acquista il giornale il primo ufficiale della Black Rock, del 19esimo secolo di un prigioniero di una nave Britannica, in una vendita all'asta di Southfield. Desmond lo trova nella vendita all'asta, volendo saper informazioni sui nuovi contatti di Penny. Widmore asserisce che è stata la codardia di Desmond a separarlo da Penny. Desmond chiede a Widmore perchè lui lo odi; Widmore dice che non è lui colui che odia. Poi da a Desmond l'indirizzo di Penny. ("La costante")

Widmore disapprova la relazione di Penny con Hume, infatti riesce a trovare le lettere il quale le scriveva a Penelope mentre passava il tempo in una prigione militare. ("Si vive insieme, si muore soli, seconda parte")

Widmore cerca di corrompere Desmond per troncare la relazione e di non vedere mai più Penelope. Sponsorizza una gara di vela intorno al mondo e Desmond, nell'intento di dimostrare il suo onore, vi partecipa. Ma la barca si abbatterà contro le spiagge dell'Isola. Alla ricerca dell'Isola

Widmore riconosce il cameraman del Nastro di Ben. ("L'altra donna")

Come visto nel video tape, Widmore picchia brutalmente un uomo (probabilmente uno degli Altri), nell'intento di estrarre informazione sulla posizione dell'Isola. ("L'altra donna")

Ad un certo punto, Widmore viene a sapere che il volo Oceanic 815 è precipitato sull'Isola. In base alle risultanze documentali, Tom presenta Michael a Widmore, il quale mette un Boeing 777 sul fondale marino presso le Sunda Trench, per ricreare l'incidente del volo Oceanic 815. Widmore invia il cargo Kahana all'Isola, assume Gault come capitano della spedizione, e gli dice che, in realtà era stato Ben ha mettere i rottami del volo 815 sul fondale marino. ("Ji Yeon") Ha assunto anche Martin Keamy per condurre una squadra mercenari per violare l'Isola, individuare ed arrestare Benjamin Linus, ed uccidere qualsiasi altra persona viva sull'Isola, inclusi i sopravvissuti del Volo Oceanic 815, se la squadra di Keamy li avesse scovati. Finalmente il falso relitto viene trovato e mostrato in televisione, Charles fa visita a Daniel in Essex, Massachusetts. Dice a che il relitto mostrato in televisione è un falso, lui lo sa poichè è stato prorpio lui a metterlo lì. In seguito offre a Daniel l'opportunità di viaggiare verso l'Isola, dicendogli che la proprietà unica dell'Isola gli avrebbe permesso di approfondire la sua ricerca, e suggernedo che l'isola avesse potuto guarire i problemi di memoria che Daniel aveva accusato fin dal suo incidente a Oxford. Widmore is awakened by Ben, and drinks to fight the nightmares. ("Cambio delle regole")

Widmore was unsuccessful with the Kahana expedition. Sometime after the Oceanic Six were rescued, Widmore was confronted by Ben in his London penthouse. Widmore looked tired and unshaven, and when asked by Ben when he started "sleeping with a bottle of scotch by the bed", he replied "When the nightmares started." Widmore assumed that Ben had come to kill him, but Ben replied, "We both know I can't do that." The two argued about who was responsible for the death of Alex. Widmore claimed that everything Ben had he took from him. Ben threatened to kill Widmore's daughter, Penelope, whom Widmore indicated would be never found. Widmore claimed the Island was his but Ben asserted that he would never find it. Widmore mused that the hunt was on... for both of them. ("Cambio delle regole")

Widmore visits an injured Locke in Tunisia, after he moved the Island. ("Vita e morte di Jeremy Bentham")

It was shortly after this that Widmore's surveillance in Tunisia caught John Locke lying in the desert after having been transported there. Widmore had cameras fixed on this spot because he somehow knew it to be "the exit" from the Island. Widmore's associates found Locke and brought him to a field hospital. After he awoke, Locke found himself face-to-face with Widmore. Widmore reminded Locke of their meeting in 1954, which for Locke had only been 4 days ago. Widmore told Locke of an approaching war and agreed to help him in his quest to bring the Oceanic Six back to the Island.

He gave Locke his cover identity of Jeremy Bentham and provided Locke with the services of Matthew Abaddon, as well as dossiers on the whereabouts and status of the Oceanic Six. ("Vita e morte di Jeremy Bentham")

Some time later, Sun approached Widmore in London. At first he pretended to merely know her through his connection with her father. However, Sun confronted him, indicating that he knew she was part of the group that had been on the Island and that they were lying about it. Sun then offered to collaborate with Widmore. He asked her why she would want to help him, but she didn't answer. ("Casa dolce casa, seconda parte")

While Sun was checking in for her flight to Los Angeles, the attendant asked her to hold for a moment, then escorted her to a room where the door was locked behind her. Widmore appeared and scolded her for approaching him in broad daylight in front of his colleagues. He brought up her statement about their common interests, and asked what they are. She told him plainly, "To kill Benjamin Linus." ("L'assenza e il vuoto")

Shortly thereafter, in his office, Widmore was surprised by an unexpected visitor: Desmond Hume, whom he had not seen in around seven years. Desmond demanded to know where he could find Daniel Faraday's mother. When Widmore appeared confused, Desmond revealed that he knew Widmore had subsidized Faraday's research at Oxford for about ten years before he sent Daniel to the Island on the freighter, and also paid for Theresa's medical support. Widmore attempted to find out whether Penny was safe, yet Desmond insisted on a location for Faraday's mother.

Widmore eventually gave Desmond an address in Los Angeles, yet warned Desmond that he was "getting (himself) involved in something that goes back many many years." and begged Desmond to keep himself and Penny out of it by hiding. ("La bomba")

A few days later, as Widmore was walking out of Widmore Industries, Ben phoned him from a marina in Long Beach. He told Widmore that he was about to return to the Island, to which Widmore replied that the Island wouldn't let him. The conversation ended with Ben reminding Widmore that he was going to murder his daughter Penelope, and that he was staring at Desmond's boat. Widmore responded, "You wouldn't dare," as Ben hung up. Ben ended up shooting Desmond, but hesitated to kill Penny, giving the injured Desmond enough time to stop him. ("Ciò che è morto è morto")

Charles and Eloise discuss their son. ("Costanti e variabili")

After this, Charles traveled to Los Angeles and appeared at the Long Beach hospital where Desmond was being treated for his gunshot wound. Here, he met up with his old friend, Eloise Hawking, who informed him that Desmond was recovering, to which he indicated that he was pleased, and Penny was inside and that he should go see her. Charles stated that he had sacrificed his relationship with Penny. It is then revealed that Eloise knew that sending Daniel to the island would lead to his death, stating that it was she who had made a sacrifice. Charles interrupts her saying "He was my son too, Eloise." Angered by this remark, Eloise slapped Charles in the face and walked off. ("Costanti e variabili")

Ritorno sull'Isola

Gennaio 2008 (Sesta stagione)

Widmore managed to take Desmond from the hospital, while he was still unconscious. Having heard of how Desmond survived a catastrophic electromagnetic event in the past, Widmore planned to check if Desmond could do it again, claiming that if he cannot they will all die. ("E vissero felici e contenti") He and his crew took Desmond back to the Island via a submarine.

Charles finally returns to the Island. ("Dottor Linus")

As Jack, Hurley and Richard reunited with Sun, Ilana, Ben, Miles and Frank at the beach camp, Widmore and his crew approached the Island, detecting this activity on the beach. Widmore ordered his men to continue on their course as planned. ("Dottor Linus")

After seeing the activity on the beach camp, Widmore's submarine docked at Hydra Island and set up a perimeter using a sonar pylon similar to the sonar fence once employed by the DHARMA Initiative. Widmore's team, led by Zoe, captured Sawyer after he threatened her and took him to the submarine. When Sawyer was brought to Widmore's cabin, Widmore and Sawyer made an agreement that if Sawyer brought the Man in Black to Widmore, then Sawyer and his friends could safely leave the Island. ("Ricognizione")

After the Man in Black temporarily left his group to try and recruit Sun, a team of Widmore's people attacked the group with tranquillizer darts and captured Jin. The next day, the Man in Black came to Hydra Island in an outrigger and discovered that Widmore had already set up a sonar fence around the perimeter of the island, preventing the Man in Black from coming in. Widmore's men appeared and led the Man in Black further down the beach to a meeting with Widmore himself. Widmore asked the Man in Black whether he knew who he was. The Man in Black did, and then asked Widmore whether he knew who the Man in Black was. Widmore guardedly answered that the Man in Black obviously wasn't John Locke. The Man in Black said that he had come because Widmore had taken one of his people, Jin. Widmore denied knowing anything. The Man in Black ominously said that the war Widmore once foretold to Locke "just got here."

Later, in the Hydra station, Widmore berated Zoe for making a move ahead of their planned schedule. Noticing that Jin was in the room, Widmore gave him a camera containing pictures of Jin's daughter, Ji Yeon, that Widmore had found amongst Sun's luggage in the Ajira plane. Widmore told Jin that he, too, had a daughter and knows how it feels to be kept apart. He went on to say that Jin's reunion with his daughter would be short-lived if "that thing" (the Man in Black) ever got off the Island, because everything they knew and loved would "cease to be." Widmore claimed he had come to the Island in order to stop the Man in Black from escaping. When Jin asked Widmore what his next move was going to be, Widmore announced that it was time for Jin to see the package, which he said was a "who," not a "what." ("Il pacco")

When Widmore was later talking to a confused Desmond, who thought he was still in the hospital and that Zoe was a nurse, he told him he had come back to the Island. This made Desmond mad, so he then began banging Widmore's head with an IV stand. Widmore's response was the same a Eloise's, "The Island isn't done with you, Desmond". After leaving the room, Jin asked what Desmond is doing on the Island. Widmore replied that it would be easier to show Jin and ordered Zoe to take him to the generator room, despite Zoe's protests about not the tests not being scheduled until tomorrow. Simmons is accidentally killed in the solenoid chamber as the test was set-up. Widmore looked sadly at Simmons' dead body as he is taken out and ordered that Desmond be placed inside. He insisted that Desmond would be fine if what he has heard about him is true. He then tells Desmond that once the experiment is over, Desmond will have to make a sacrifice. Desmond cynically asked what Widmore knows about sacrifice. Widmore angrily told him about his son dying, his daughter hating him and him never seeing his grandson, all in the name of the Island. Unless Desmond can help him, he said that all that would have been for nothing and Penny, Desmond's son and everyone else will be dead. Desmond was then exposed to the electromagnetism inside the chamber, which he survives, being left unconscious for only a few seconds. Widmore offered to explain why he had to put Desmond through that, but Desmond declined and cooperatively asked when they start with whatever is so important. ("E vissero felici e contenti")

After Desmond had been captured by Sayid and the Man in Black, Widmore sent Zoe to the Man in Black's camp on the main island to deliver an ultimatum for the Man in Black to return Desmond. When Sawyer and other Survivors arrived on Hydra Island, Widmore instructed Zoe to tell Sawyer that their deal was off and ordered firing on the Man in Black's group, having arrived on a beach on the main island, resulting in casualties of the Man in Black's group. ("L'ultima recluta")

Widmore lead Kate, Sawyer, Sun, Jin, Hurley, Claire and Frank to the Hydra station with his team. After Sawyer refused to go in the cages, again and seizes a rifle from Seamus, Widmore grabbed Kate and threatened to kill her but when Sawyer tried to call his bluff, Widmore informed them that he had a list of names including "Ford, the Kwons, and Reyes but not Kate Austin" and that so it didn't matter to him whether she lived or died. Widmore approached Sawyer and added that he was doing this for Sawyer's own good. Widmore checked with his men whether the fence was live yet. ("Il candidato")

• Nell’Odissea di Omero Poseidone era la suprema divinità marittima che odiava Ulisse e utilizzava i suoi poteri sugli oceani per impedire all’uomo di tornare nella sua Itaca da Penelope,sua moglie. In Lost Charles Widmore non vuole che Desmond sia il compagno di sua figlia Penelope e vigila il mare tramite il Kahana,il suo cargo ormeggiato al largo dell’Isola. Si può fare un parallelismo tra Poseidone e Widmore,dato che entrambi sorvegliano le acque ed impediscono a un uomo di tornare dalla propria amata.
• Il magnate possiede una limousine,una Bentley Arnage guidata da un autista.
• Charles Widmore è proprietario della Widmore Corporation,che produce dei test di gravidanza usati da Sun,Kate e Rachel. La scritta “Widmore Corporation” è visibile anche sulla cesta della mongolfiera di Henry Gale e su un tabellone mentre Charlie sta uscendo di scena in “Fuoco e acqua”.
• Il nome Charles ha ascendenze germaniche e significa “uomo libero”. Deriva dalla parola “karl”,simile all’antica parola inglese “Churl” (“uomo”).
• Quando Desmond si reca nell’ufficio di Charles Widmore,si può notare appeso alla parete di destra un grande quadro raffigurante un orso polare e un immagine di un Buddha; in cima al dipinto appare la parola “Namaste”. Lo stile dell’opera è molto simile a quelle dipinte da Thomas,l’ex ragazzo di Claire e il padre di Aaron e si può ipotizzare che sia proprio lui l’autore della tela.
• Charles Widmore é il padre di Daniel Faraday. Nella puntata "Costanti e Variabili", dopo la visita in ospedale a Penelope, Eloise Hawking incontra l'uomo all'uscita.
