Hello. I'm Dr. Edgar Halliwax and this is the orientation film for station six of the DHARMA Initiative.

As you've no doubt surmised, station six, or The Orchid, is not a botanical research unit.

The unique properties of this island have created a kind of Casimir effect, allowing the DHARMA initiative to conduct unique experiments in both space and time.

This is the vault, constructed adjacent to a pocket of what we believe to be negatively charged "exotic matter".
Great care must be taken to avoid leaving inorganic materials inside the chamber.
The electromagnetic energy within the Island can be highly volatile and unpredictable.

Now for your own safety and the safety of those around you, metallic objects must never be placed within the vault.

In our first demonstration, we will attempt to shift the test subject 100 milliseconds ahead (in) four-dimensional space.
For the briefest of the moments, the animal will seem to disappear, but in reality...

[Une main tend un carnet avec un logo DHARMA tandis que des paroles inaudibles se murmurent. Le film saute puis se stabilise sur Edgar Halliwax. Une femme le maquille.]

HALLIWAX : Je ne me ferai jamais au maquillage.

VOIX D'HOMME : Vous êtes super ! Comme ça, ça ne brille pas.


HALLIWAX : Quelle importance ? Je suis un scientifique, pas un...

[Le film saute et montre un lapin sur une table. Une assistante le prend dans ses bras avant de le tendre à Halliwax.]

VOIX D'HOMME : Retournez le lapin, s'il-vous-plaît.

[Halliwax s'exécute, révélant le nombre 15 peint sur le flanc de l'animal.]

VOIX D'HOMME : Parfait.

[Le film saute à nouveau; on aperçoit brièvement une photo de Gerald DeGroot.]

HALLIWAX : Bonjour. Je suis le Docteur Edgar Halliwax, et ceci est le film de présentation pour la station 6 du projet DHARMA. Comme vous [l'immeuble Narvik apparaît brièvement] le savez, la station 6, ou « l'orchidée », ne s'occupe pas de recherches dans la botanique. [changement de plan, on peut apercevoir brièvement le building figurant dans le film de présentation du Cygne quand il est question de« société utopique »]. Nous vous présentons nos excuses pour vous avoir demandé de mentir à vos proches et à vos collègues. Nous avons fait cela, bien évidemment, dans leur propre intérêt. Les propriétés uniques de cette île ont mis en place une sorte d'effet Casimir, nous permettant de...

[Une image du film de la Pièce 23 est montrée très brièvement, et on peut lire « Dieu vous aime comme Il a aimé Jacob ». Le film revient avec Halliwax tenant toujours un lapin.]

HALLIWAX : Le champ que vous avez été sélectionné pour étudier est très volatil et potentiellement dangereux. Mais d'ici quelques minutes nous vous montrerons les mesures de sécurité élaborées qui ont été mises en place pour assurer... [une fiole tombe avec fracas d'une haute étagère au-dessus d'Halliwax] ... bon sang ?!

[Sur l'étagère il y a un autre lapin blanc avec le numéro 15 inscrit sur le flanc. Plusieurs personnes s'affolent et crient, et l'assistante se précipite vers l'étagère.]

VOIX D'HOMME : Hé, qu'est-ce que c'est que ça ?! Que se passe-t-il ?!

ASSISTANTE : Oh mon Dieu, c'est un quinze !

HALLIWAX : Bon sang ?! Ne les laisez pas à côté ! Quand avez-vous fait le changement ?

ASSISTANTE : Négatif vingt !

[Une voix féminine enregistrée fait un décompte à partir de dix, s'arrêtant à trois.]

HALLIWAX : Combien de temps ?

ASSISTANTE : Neuf minutes, mais nous apprenons toujours comment...

HALLIWAX : [en regardant la caméra] Pourquoi est-ce que ça filme encore ?

VOIX D'HOMME : Il m'a dit de continuer à filmer...

HALLIWAX : Coupe-moi ça. Coupe !

[Le film montre brièvement une image à l'envers de quelqu'un faisant de la bicyclette vers les baraquements. On entend très faiblement la voix d'Halliwax qui parle de « moisson ». Le film revient ensuite à Halliwax, la situation est très calme.]

HALLIWAX : Bonjour. Je suis le Docteur Edgar Halliwax, et ceci est le film de présentation pour la station 6 du projet DHARMA. Comme vous le savez, la station 6, ou « l'orchidée », ne s'occupe pas de recherches dans la botanique.

[A cue card with a DHARMA logo is held up as indistinct mutterings are heard. The film jerks and clarifies to show Edgar Halliwax. A woman is applying make-up to his face.]

HALLIWAX: I'll never get used to wearing make-up.

MALE VOICE: You look great! It takes away the shine.

HALLIWAX: Who cares if I shine? I'm a scientist, I'm not a...

[Film jumps to show a rabbit on a table. A female assistant lifts it up and passes it into Halliwax's arms.]

MALE VOICE: Turn the rabbit around, please.

[Halliwax does so, revealing a painted number 15 on the animal's side.]

MALE VOICE: Got it.

[Film jumps again; an image of Gerald DeGroot is shown for a brief moment.]

HALLIWAX: Hello. I'm Doctor Edgar Halliwax, and this is the Orientation Film for Station 6 of the DHARMA Initiative. As you [the Narvik building overlaps for a brief moment] have no doubt surmised, Station 6, or "the Orchid", is not a botanical research... [cut, image of building in Swan orientation film when "social engineering" is mentioned can briefly be seen] We apologize for asking you to deceive your family and colleagues. This is, of course, in the interest of their own security. The unique properties of this Island created a kind of Casimir effect, allowing us to...

[A shot of the Room 23 film is very briefly shown, reading "God loves you as He loved Jacob". The film resumes with Halliwax holding the rabbit again.]

HALLIWAX: The field you have been selected to study is highly volatile and potentially dangerous. But, over the next few minutes we will demonstrate the elaborate safety measures that have been put in place to ensure... [a laboratory flask falls from a high shelf above Halliwax with a loud crashing noise] ... the hell?!

[On the shelf above Halliwax is another white rabbit with the number 15 painted on its side. Several people start shouting, and the assistant runs past Halliwax.]

MALE VOICE: Hey, what is that?! What's going on...?!

ASSISTANT: Oh God, it's fifteen!

HALLIWAX: ... the hell?! Don't let them near each other! When did you set the shift?

ASSISTANT: Negative 20!

[A recorded female voice counts backwards from ten, cutting off at "three".]

HALLIWAX: How long?

ASSISTANT: Nine minutes, but we're still learning how to...!

HALLIWAX: [looks at camera] Why is that still running?

MALE VOICE: He told me to keep the camera running...

HALLIWAX: Turn it off. Turn it off!

[The camera cuts briefly to an upside down frame of someone riding a bicycle through the Barracks. Candle's voice can be heard very faintly, mentioning "harvesting". The film then cuts back to Candle without any alarm or chaos.]

HALLIWAX: Hello. I'm Doctor Edgar Halliwax, and this is the Orientation Film for Station 6 of the DHARMA Initiative. As you have no doubt surmised, Station 6, or "the Orchid", is not a botanical research unit.
